Piano

Kids Beginner Classes

Weekly Piano Classes for children ages 8-12, & Young Beginner Classes for children under 8 years old.

$810 or $135/month~ Winter Semester (November to April)

The Kids Class is designed to give students the ability to play and enjoy music at home and share it with friends. Your child will progress through 5 levels (each level takes approximately a year to complete) as they acquire the skills needed to play the piano. Classes are a lot of fun as kids learn together! They play awesome songs and games, but the best part may be the musical community they participate in. Classes are capped at three student in Gladstone and five students in Neepawa.

At each level they will learn:

• Audiation (musical thought and understanding), Melody, Harmony, Rhythm, Transposition, Improvisation, Composing, Performance, Technique, Music Reading, Music Interpretation, Artistry, Theory, and of course a lot of music!

Parental supervision of daily at home practice is required. A piano or keyboard at home is required. This is a piano class, it is beneficial if your child can read, write and follow instructions independently. In each class we cover a lot of ground. Children with learning disorders usually do better in Individual Classes (check out the section on Individual Classes further down)

The Young Beginner Classes covers much of the same material but at a developmentally appropriate pace.

Teen (Intermediate) Classes

Weekly Piano Classes, ages 13-18

$810 (135/ month)~ Winter Semester (November to April)

Prerequisite: Completion of Kids Classes or an ability to play level 2 Royal Conservatory pieces.

This program will take a student approximately five years to complete. It is designed to expose students to various styles of music and opportunities they would like to pursue and to equip them for further study, either at university or in another capacity.

In addition to building on every aspect learnt in Keys to Music, this program also begins exploration of various musical styles. Students will also be exposed to different aspects of musical careers such as performing, composing, recording or accompanying.

The last 3 years – Individual Classes are recommended at this point.

The last 3 years of study are highly individualized. Students will spend this time preparing for their preferred music path. Below are some examples of what students might choose to prepare for:

University to become: a classical pianist, an accompanist, composer (every commercial with music has a composer involved), a public school music or band teacher, or private music teacher.

Non- University Careers may include: Church musician – paid or volunteer, social media performer- such as YouTube, Performing Band (live music at events), or Private music teacher.

These are just a few of the career options available to musicians. Unlike most other jobs, you can’t wait until you are finished high school to decide you want to be a musician, a significant part of the preparation is done before you graduate high school- maybe even before you want to be a musician! This program gives them an idea if being a professional musician is something they would like to pursue, while ensuring that they have the skills to enjoy making their own music for the rest of their lives.
